Odds are that if you are reading this Newsletter, you will be among the two thirds that are unsatisfied with their how much they are paid. Unite the Union suggest that they will use the findings of the survey conducted last month to pressure housing associations to adequately reward their employees for their value in the organisation.

The Survey also revealed other shocking findings such as the 80% of respondents that experienced work-related stress in the past year and just under half felt that their workplace was not good for their mental health, just a few weeks after mental health week back in May.

It is apparent that drastic action much be taken to improve the wellbeing of employees in the social housing sector. Only time will tell if, or how long, it is going to take to see some improvements.

AICO Workshop

Around 80% of UK fire deaths and injuries happen at home. Tragically, that adds up to over 300 deaths and around 9,000 injuries each year caused by fires where they should feel the safest.

Published 1st May 2019, The BSI’s recent update of the domestic fire detection and alarm system standard outlines the code of practice for the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of fire detection and fire alarm systems in domestic properties.

Hosted by CHIC, in partnership with the market leader in Fire & Carbon Monoxide Detection AICO, this workshop will help you put this new regulation into practice and outline how your organisation will need to change its approach to remain compliant.

Detection and alarm systems can substantially reduce the risk of death or serious injury from fire. You are two to three times more likely to survive a house fire if a correctly functioning fire detector is present therefore the work that AICO conducts is extremely important.

More information about the day will be published on our website soon at www.chicltd.co.uk

News from the Supply Chain

Prior to June 2017, FRAs and Fire Spread Prevention was not at the top of the list for landlords with many having competing priorities. Following the Grenfell disaster, focus has been firmly on Passive and Active Fire Protection. In 2018/19 CHIC’s total spend on fire prevention reached £1.8m and is projected at £7.2m by 2020.

Sunfish Services introduced a new, innovative fire alarm management system called Nimbus, created by LAN Control Systems. It is a cloud hosted database for fire alarm systems which records every test of every smoke detector during a service and puts the data on the cloud where customer can login and use at any time.

Nimbus communicates information such as a complete log and register of when every device is tested, full compliance details from the fire alarm panel, automated service reports and live fire fault notifications straight to a mobile device or email. This gives full transparency of work and details of when new work needs to be carried out. It also provides more efficient ways to identify why fires occur and how they can be prevented for the fire department.
